Frequently Asked Questions https://davidchilcottphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/5/frequently-asked-questions

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN IN BUSINESS?
I shot my first wedding over 40 years ago.  Enough said.

HAS YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY WON ANY AWARDS?
Yes. I have been honored by awards.

DOES PRICING INCLUDE TRAVEL?
Yes. Travel is included in Wyoming, Southern Montana and Western South Dakota. If your wedding venue is elsewhere, I will ask for gas money or airfare.

IS LODGING INCLUDED?
Yes, within 100 miles of Sheridan, WY. For weddings outside of 100 miles of Sheridan, WY, I ask that lodging be provided by the wedding party.

DO YOU HAVE BACK UP EQUIPMENT?
As a professional, I would not dream of going on assignment without adequate backup (including another professional photographer on call in case of medical emergency or accident).  I own five professional grade Canon camera bodies, and three flashes which are part of my traveling equipment with me at all times. Flashes can be remotely triggered for special lighting effects. I also own several Canon "L" series lenses - the best professional lenses on the market.  Lens focal lengths go from macro to extreme telephoto.

DO YOU EDIT PHOTOS OR JUST BURN THEM TO CD STRAIGHT OUT OF THE CAMERA?
I am a professional and am a firm believer in digital editing software.  Only amateurs burn wedding photos straight out of the camera. My workflow includes, Lightroom, Photoshop, OnOne, PhaseOne, Topaz, DXO Optics Pro and others.  Adjustments are made on digital files create realistic results without over manipulation. I don't believe in over processing photos as those fads will not endure.  Instead, I believe in giving my customers classic photography which has endured the test of time.  I will also select my favorite photos and perform in-depth edits to them.  All edits are designed to enhance the mood of an image.  Special editing is available upon request.

HOW MANY IMAGES WILL I RECEIVE?
The number of finished images will vary.  During a typical full day wedding, I will take 500-1100 photos.  Edits will reduce this amount by about 5%. I also reserve the creative right to release only those photos which are professional in quality and within my artistic standards. All photos that do not meet my standards are deleted.

CAN WE SAVE MONEY IF WE DO NOT HAVE AN ENGAGEMENT SESSION?
I will substitute some enlargements from your wedding day if an engagement session is not possible.  I highly recommend an engagement session as you will be more comfortable with me on your wedding day.  We get to know each other during the engagement shoot and I can get ideas for any special requests for your wedding photos.

IS THERE AN ONLINE GALLERY WHERE MY FAMILY & FRIENDS WILL BE ABLE TO SEE THE IMAGES?
YES.  All edited images will be uploaded to your wedding gallery.  Sometimes, couples also request that their engagement session also be uploaded. These galleries are provided as part of the package price.  No password required. Often, couples view their wedding photos while on honeymoon.  I send a link as soon as the edits are posted.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR US TO BE ABLE TO SEE OUR IMAGES?
Usually online images are available within one to three weeks from your wedding.

DO YOU BACKUP IMAGES?
Yes.  Original camera files before edits are backed up to two external hard drives.  Camera compact flash cards are not erased or reformatted until after edits have been completed.  Once edits have been completed, files are uploaded to Smugmug where they are archived and can be downloaded in case of complete computer and all hard drive(s) failure.  Also files are kept on two external hard drives as well as your wedding flash drive.

DO YOU MAKE CUSTOM PRINTS IN-HOUSE OR SEND THEM OUT?
Custom prints, canvas gallery wraps and metal prints are provided by a custom wedding lab not available to the general public.  I was required to submit samples of my work and a valid sales tax number before the lab would accept me as a customer.

Sue Henretty & Bradley Nolan Engagement Shoot https://davidchilcottphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2013/5/sue-henretty-bradley-nolan-engagement-shoot It was my pleasure to photograph Sue & Bradley.  Their wedding was scheduled for October, but due to military reassignment for Bradley, the wedding was moved up to April.  This is the first "engagement" shoot I have ever had that occurred after the wedding.  As we had the day scheduled way in advance, we decided to make the best of the rainy weather and had a wonderful photo session and a lot of fun.

Selecting A Wedding Photographer https://davidchilcottphotography.zenfolio.com/blog/2012/11/selecting-a-wedding-photographer

Selecting a Wedding Photographer

Your wedding only lasts one day, but you’ll want to hold onto the pictures forever. Unfortunately, statistics show that many brides take big risks with their memories…by simply not knowing what to look for. To help you select a photographer who will make your wedding story one-of-a-kind, try these suggestions:

  • Interview several photographers. Ask questions about their styles. Most wedding photographers offer either traditional, posed portraits or a candid photojournalism style. Some offer a combination. You should also ask if the photographer specializes in black and white or color photography.
  • Look at samples. Ask to see albums that show wedding coverage from start to finish. This will give you an idea of both the style and quality each photographer provides.
  • Ask about backups. Always ask if the photographer carries back-up equipment. Also, make sure the photographer has a ready replacement who can photograph your wedding if he or she becomes ill.
  • Develop a relationship. Look for a photographer who you are comfortable with. Remember, you are not hiring someone to simply take pictures, but to tell the story of your special day. A skilled professional will want to know about the bride and groom – your personalities and preferences.
  • Communicate. Make sure the photographer has a clear understanding of your expectations. Take the time to sit down and discuss the services provided and the fees involved. This helps avoid any future misunderstandings.
  • Photo or video? Photography and videography are two distinctly different fields—both requiring extensive training to produce high-quality results. Depending on your personal taste and budget, you may want both photo and video coverage of your wedding.
  • Ask about credentials. Membership in a professional association, certification or a photography degree shows a level of commitment to the profession and their photographic art. These types of credentials can help you determine which photographer is right for you.
  • Check references. A friend’s recommendation, the Better Business Bureau and professional associations are excellent sources of information.
